A Whole Day of Clay is a relaxing and fun pottery workshop for adults teaching you traditional pottery hand building techniques.
About this event
A Whole Day of Clay is a fun workshop designed to teach you how to create your own pottery using traditional hand-building techniques, in a relaxed and friendly environment. Whether you are a complete beginner or experienced maker, A Whole Day of Clay will give you the opportunity and space to join a creative community and learn new skills. It is organised and delivered by Helen McCormick, a Welsh ceramic artist/designer maker and teacher based in Devon, and has over 25 years of experience working with clay. Helen is passionate about ceramics and sharing her skills within the community. The workshop will be held at The Walronds, a beautiful historic 17th Century Tudor building right in the centre of Cullompton.
The workshop is split into two parts. In the the morning, you will learn how to create a beautiful coiled pot from a simple pinch pot and learn how to decorate your pot with a variety of techniques. At 12.30 the group will break for lunch and take a walk across the road to the amazing and characterful Bakehouse cafe for a light lunch. In the afternoon we will learn how to construct a decorative trinket box using slabs of clay.
During the afternoon, we will have a short tea/coffee break and enjoy Helen’s delicious homemade famous Welsh cakes.
Once all pots and trinket boxes are made, Helen will take them home and lovingly fire them in her kiln. There will be two glaze colour options to choose from. Your work will be available for collection approximately two weeks after the workshop. If collection is not possible, postage can be arrange at a small cost. Helen will notify you when they are ready for collection via email.
All you will need to bring to the workshop is an apron, enthusiasm and excitement. Your creativity will begin to flow once you have started the making process. Lunch and tea/coffee break is included in the ticket price. You can inform Helen of any dietary requirements via email or on arrival and she will notify the Bakehouse.
